Trent Wakenight specializes in communication, marketing, and consumer and workforce educational strategies and implementation. He directed a food safety education grant program that included the implementation of the Michigan Food Irradiation Task Force and an informational campaign for Michigan school food service directors. Aiding the enhancement of food protection education, Trent participated in the creation of Michigan’s Food and Agriculture Protection Strategy. He also served as a coordinator of educational and professional development through the National Center for Food Protection and Defense, a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Center of Excellence, and the DHS Integrated Centers of Excellence Network. Trent spent one year directing communication and marketing strategies for "Local Action Global Health," a Kellogg Foundation-funded effort to promote awareness of zoonotic disease barriers and enablers and strategies for disease management (www.localactionglobalhealth.org). He currently oversees strategy and communication activities for the Food + Society Alliance at MSU, that brings together public and private sector leaders to develop and implement strategies where food and society intersect.
